Driving Instructions from Edinburgh City By-Pass

Eastside Cottages are situated just six miles from the Edinburgh City by-pass and half a mile beyond Silverburn on the A702.

To get to Eastside Cottages take the A702 (the Biggar road) from the Edinburgh City by-pass, the A720.

Drive for approx. 5.5 miles southwest until you reach the village of Silverburn.

Drive straight through the village.

1/2 a mile beyond the village you will see a bus shelter on the right hand side.

Immediately after the bus shelter is a turning to right with a recessed field gate (where you can safely turn off the main road to open the gate).

Turn off the main road here and proceed through the gate.

After 1 mile up the track you will find the cottages.

Getting into Edinburgh

Getting into Edinburgh from Eastside Cottages couldn’t be easier. From the bottom of the farm track turn left onto the main road (A702) and carry on on this road until you reach the centre of town.

There are many car parks in Edinburgh city centre - it is also possible to park on the street but be very careful to read the parking notices as Edinburgh’s parking wardens are infamously unforgiving!  It is usually ok to park in metered street parking areas after 18.00 or 18.30 for free and also on Sundays for free but again - do check!

It’s a little expensive but the John Lewis car park in the city centre is very convenient.  The car park can be accessed from either York Place or Leith Street, it is 12 miles from Eastside roughly a 30 minute drive.

Alternatively there is a great bus service running from Penicuik into the centre of Edinburgh every 15 minutes. Parking in Penicuik is free and the bus fare is a very reasonable £1.30 each way. The 37, 47, X47 and 15 buses all go from Penicuik town centre to central Edinburgh and take just under an hour. For further information and night buses see the Lothian buses time table.

If you fancy a night out in town, our local taxi firm will pick you up from the cottages, take you into town and pick you up again later, contact Peni Cabs on 01968 675292 or 07711301198 or Greenlyne taxis on: 07771 756471 or email on: [email protected] to book. Or if you took the car in and decided to make a night of it, call Scoot, and a man on a scooter will come to your rescue!
