A local's guide to Edinburgh & the Lothians
Featured attractions
The city of Edinburgh:
Edinburgh Castle
No visit to Edinburgh is complete without a trip to Edinburgh Castle. Not only can you get one of the best views of the city, but you’ll also glean a valuable insight into Edinburgh’s history and why the city takes the form it is today. Within the castle walls sits St. Margaret’s Chapel, the Scottish War Museum and Mons Meg, an historic canon next to a modern equivalent fired every day at one o’clock to the terror of many a local and tourist on Princes Street below! For more on information on all Edinburgh attractions check our guide.
Lothian coast & country guide
Seacliff Beach
The Lothians boast some wonderful beaches, including Seacliff Beach with it’s natural rock harbour and views to the majestic Tantallon Castle beyond.
Tantallon is also well worth a visit, maintained by Historic Scotland, visitors are allowed to access the upper walls and inner staircases and rooms of the ruin. If all that sounds a little energetic hop along to North Berwick for some of their renowned “fish suppers” (good old fashioned fish & chips!). For more on the Lothians check our guide.
