The hills are a vivid purple with the heather in flower at this time of year. An August walk in the Pentlands is punctuated with the blooms of the old-fashioned hill grasses and herbs. Look carefully for tasty wild blaeberries to pick and lucky white heather!

On the farm, the sheep are gathered. The first of the lambs off to market and wool is packed off to Galashiels for grading and sale.

There is so much more besides with the Edinburgh Arts Festival exhibiting the visual arts and the Book Festival setting up their tented village in Charlotte Square Gardens for two weeks of high profile debates and discussions.
