Eastside is changing into it's autumn colours once again. The bracken and treetops turn golden, and red rowan and hawthorn berries provide ample food for the fieldfares passing through on their way south for Winter.

What's on around Edinburgh in September?

September is often a good time to explore Edinburgh. The streets are much quieter and you can get a better locals' perspective without the Festival fanfare. Make the most of the exhibitions and chances to see beyond the (usually closed) doors during Doors Open Day. September 2020 is going to be a little different, we will keep you up to date on what is reopening when in Scotland.

Summer series at The Free Company

To help you plan your trip we have written a couple of blog posts to let you know what has reopened in Scotland's 'phase 3'.

There are a huge number of restaurants, independent shops, attractions, galleries and sculpture parks that are now open. Much effort has been made to keep people safe.

For the best food, drink and local larders in and around Edinburgh we have listed some of our favourite Edinburgh and country based restaurants, shops and suppliers. Some are still offering takeaways to eat at home.

We have also listed some of the best independent Edinburgh shops and attractions that are slowly and safely reopening alongside hill walks, beach days and sculpture parks in the great outdoors.

Doors Open Day gives access to hidden architectural gems in locations throughout Edinburgh and the Lothians. Buildings are opened to the public in celebration of their fascinating architecture and the stories they can tell. Different buildings open each year from Edinburgh observatories to anatomical museums depending on the programme.

Doors Open Days | For 2020 The doors open day has gone digital. Due to ongoing concerns over covid 19 doors open day 2020 is encouraging people to sign up to digital lectures and tours all hosted on their website.
